Job Overview

Continuous Improvement Engineer at Travel Centers of America (TA) focuses on analyzing and improving organizational processes to enhance operations through continuous improvement methods. The role is hybrid and can be based at one of our locations:
Westlake, OH;
Chicago, IL; or Louisville, KY.

Responsibilities
  • Data Collection and Analysis: conduct process mapping, statistical data analysis, and root cause analysis to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement; map and document processes; identify process gaps, recommend and implement process improvements; develop and manage continuous improvement plans.
  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve tangible improvements in key business metrics such as safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Project Management: lead continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies; assess initiatives and provide recommendations for future activities; support go‑live and steady‑state certifications; identify and support automation projects; interact regularly with operations management and/or customers.
  • Engineering and Lean

    Competency:

    develop competency in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coach employees in continuous improvement, QA, and Lean principles; apply tools such as process optimization, labor standards studies, layout optimization, data profiling and analysis, and resource modeling.
  • Facilitation and Execution: facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events through all stages (A3 charter, pre‑work, follow‑up, sustainment); coach process owners to achieve operational excellence.
  • Reporting and Strategy: provide regular reports and action plans to measure progress against objectives; make optimization recommendations aligned with Truck Service strategy.
  • Additional responsibilities: design, implement, monitor, and maintain the QMS; implement corrective action system; analyze customer feedback to enhance experience; support regulatory compliance and certification; support quality assurance improvements for start‑ups or expansions; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Intermediate skills in data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL).
  • Experience developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S/Workplace Organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • At least 50% travel.
  • Intermediate understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, and metrics.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD) and Labor Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of truck service operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, and Lean methods.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair solutions, automation types, fleet management, vehicle maintenance operations, and managed transportation networks.
  • Preferred certifications:
    Lean Six Sigma, PMP.
