Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop highly customizable electro-mechanical capital equipment, with a strong focus on new product development and manufacturability. In this role, you will act as a technical lead on assigned projects, collaborate closely with Sales, Electrical Engineering, Drafting, Assembly, and Test teams, and help bring complex customer requirements to life through robust mechanical designs. You will work on long-term projects, contribute to a growing engineering team, and support a rapidly expanding product line that is experiencing high market demand.
Responsibilities
* Review and evaluate sales order requirements and specifications to configure and develop effective mechanical solutions.
* Collaborate with Sales and, when needed, directly with customers to clarify and resolve technical requirements.
* Work closely with Electrical Engineers and Drafting teams to produce accurate and complete customer drawings.
* Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, guiding design decisions and ensuring technical integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
* Partner with internal groups such as Assembly, Procurement, and field technicians during start-up and commissioning to resolve technical issues.
* Collaborate with Sales and Applications Engineering to ensure proposed solutions meet customer needs and are technically feasible.
* Approve project releases to Manufacturing, ensuring designs are complete, accurate, and ready for production.
* Work with Assembly and Test departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during build and test phases.
* Contribute as part of a project team to deliver cost-effective, manufacturable designs for electro-mechanical capital equipment.
* Support the creation and maintenance of bills of materials (BOMs) and related engineering documentation.
* Apply 2D and 3D CAD tools (with an emphasis on Creo) to design and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
* Incorporate considerations for casting, compressors, pumps, motors, and sheet metal products into design work as required.
* Utilize project management skills to manage tasks, meet milestones, and support on-time project delivery.
* Provide regular updates on project status and timelines to stakeholders.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design practices, product performance, and manufacturability.
Essential Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
* 5+ years of experience in designing and developing electro-mechanical equipment.
* 5+ years of experience designing sheet metal products.
* Experience in the development, design, and engineering of mechanical and electrical systems using both 2D and 3D CAD software, with Creo strongly preferred.
* Experience with OEM design activities for capital equipment.
* Experience creating and managing bills of materials (BOMs).
* Experience working with components such as castings, compressors, pumps, and/or motors.
* Demonstrated project management experience within engineering or product development environments.
* Strong mechanical design skills with a focus on new product development and manufacturability.
* Proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD-based mechanical design.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience with power and voltage considerations in electro-mechanical systems.
* Background in electrical testing for equipment or systems.
* Knowledge of noise attenuation methods, including fan silencers.
* Experience working directly with customers in a technical capacity.
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
* Understanding of seismic, wind, and vibration calculations as they relate to equipment design.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
* Strong communication skills to collaborate across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service.
* Ability to balance technical rigor with cost-effective, manufacturable solutions.
Work Environment
The role is based in a recently opened engineering office located near the manufacturing facility, providing close access to production and testing operations. You will work as part of a collaborative team of approximately a dozen to over fifteen engineers, contributing to a culture of growth, innovation, and continuous improvement. On a typical day, you will spend about 90% of your time at a desk performing design, analysis, documentation, and collaboration activities, and approximately 10% of your time on the manufacturing floor working hands-on with Assembly and Test teams to review builds, support troubleshooting, and observe equipment in operation.
Projects are highly customizable and often span from six months to two years, giving you the opportunity to follow complex capital equipment designs from concept through production and start-up. The environment emphasizes teamwork, technical excellence, and the excitement of…
