Responsibilities- Coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings related to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.
- Apply knowledge of civil engineering principles and highway maintenance methods, techniques, and use of field and office engineering instruments.
- Conduct highway stakeouts and document findings with corrective actions.
- Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretations, establish communication among technicians, engineers, and contractors.
- Perform computer‑related tasks, including contract proposal development, HMIP updates, and lightweight computer‑aided drafting.
- Maintain comprehensive, legible records and reports, including computer/Ipad data entry.
- Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Work nights, weekends, and in all weather conditions as required for emergency and planned operations.
- Operate in uneven surfaces, rough and steep terrain, and work at heights over water or traffic, including on bridge substructures and superstructures.
- Lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Experience conducting independent, moderately complex inspections with limited supervision.
- Skill in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead co‑workers on assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
- Maximum work schedule may include nighttime and weekend hours.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician‑level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Grade NC11 with a salary range of $45,431 – $79,504.
