Position Overview
Senior Engineer/Project Manager – Transportation Hydraulics (Ohio). Responsible for project delivery, business development, and growth of HDR’s Transportation Hydraulics Group.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as Project Manager / Hydraulics Lead on key projects; participate in training, development, and management of personnel.
- Promote HDR through active engagement in professional organizations and coordinate with client managers and marketing staff to identify project and contract opportunities.
- Lead projects related to state government, municipal, and local water resources clients, focusing on hydrologic analyses, hydraulic modeling, and design for flood mitigation, stream restoration, and transportation drainage.
- Direct and coordinate work of multidisciplinary teams (roadway, structural, traffic, utilities, ROW, environmental), ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget while maintaining quality control.
- Responsible for all aspects of complex small to medium projects or routine large projects, including project and task-level management, hands‑on engineering, and leadership of technical staff.
- Lead development of H&H modeling (1D/2D hydraulic models) to support planning and design of flood and transportation hydraulic projects, including stream rehabilitation, culverts, bridges, floodplain impacts, and stormwater systems.
- Develop engineering design documents (plans, specifications, cost estimates, contract documents) for diverse water resources infrastructure.
- Prepare technical and non‑technical reports and presentations, including visualization of data.
- Assist with business development activities, client relations, marketing pursuits, and project proposals.
- Implement HDR’s technology, standards, project delivery practices, equipment, tools, and training programs for successful project execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (required).
- Ohio PE license (required).
- Minimum 8 years of experience in hydraulics engineering, water resources engineering, and permitting for transportation projects (required).
- Minimum 4 years of Project Management experience (required).
- Experience in water resources planning, hydrology/hydraulics, and drainage/flood control design.
- Successful project leadership experience.
- Strong leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
- Technical proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and reports, scour investigations, erosion and sediment control plans, drainage, stormwater management design, waterway and NPDES permitting, quantity & cost estimates, and specifications.
- Experience with standard drainage analysis and design packages (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station Open Roads Designer, Storm
CAD). - HEC-RAS 1D/2D and/or SRH-2D river modeling preferred.
- ArcGIS Pro and HEC-HMS experience preferred.
- Project experience and existing relationships with ODOT and Ohio transportation clients.
- Local Ohio candidates preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience.
- Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the relevant licensing board (PE or equivalent).
- Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project (Access experience a plus).
- Demonstrated leadership skills.

Pay range (Pay Transparency Ohio): $115,010 – $164,300.
