Summary

Coordinate engineering and technical activities concerned with the design, development, fabrication, and implementation of tooling and equipment. Utilizing best engineering practices, policies, and procedures to coordinate the tooling and equipment development activities for new processes, products, and current production.

Responsibilities
  • Design plastic injection tooling.
  • Creates 3D models, 2D drawings, BOM, Gantt charts, process sheets.
  • Leads projects, sets expectations, engages, guides, and provides support for toolmakers and CNC programmers to meet project deadlines.
  • Lead DFM meetings to ensure that the customer’s technical needs and operations' performance needs are met.
  • Develops and coordinates tool due diligence to ensure manufacturability.
  • Supports tool shop activity to ensure fabrication is to specifications, process needs, cost requirements and schedules.
  • Supports injection molding by designing fixtures, gages, end of arm tooling (EOAT), and other basic tool support.
  • Coordinates and conducts tool trials for process development and prototype supply.
  • Evaluates potential engineering changes to the products and what tool changes are required, implements tool design models and drawings as required.
  • Defines the critical criteria required for primary equipment specification and quotation, including material handling equipment, tonnage, and special construction requirements.
  • Develops, proposes and implements tooling and equipment improvements to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Performs necessary functions to adhere to ISO standards.
  • Provides Quality Department with documentation and models for inspection purposes.
  • Reports on all process development and tool design activities relative to achieving targets, risks and deficiencies to project team and management.
  • Supports sales and quoting activity as needed.
  • Create NPL documentation for production.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Deep understanding of design for manufacturing, tooling technology, assembly, fabrication.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Complex problem-solving capability.
  • Knowledge of fundamental manufacturing methods, like plastic injection, CNC machining, EDM, rapid prototyping, automation, robotics, 3D printing, etc.
  • Familiarity with design of basic assembly equipment and fixtures.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software;
    Key Creator, Solidworks and Creo.
  • Customer focused from both an internal and external perspective.
  • Proficiency in geometric tolerance, quality assurance, and quality management systems.
  • Fluent in the use of continuous improvement tools & techniques; ISO standards a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with multiple levels of the organization.
