Test Engineer, Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer, Research Scientist
We are seeking a curious and technically rigorous Entry-Level Optics Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will support the design, analysis, fabrication coordination, and testing of optical systems across our product portfolio. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to bring high-performance optical solutions from concept to production. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate with a strong foundation in optics, photonics, or a related discipline who is eager to apply academic expertise to real-world engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Design and analyze optical systems including lenses, mirrors, prisms, filters, beam splitters, and fiber optic components using simulation tools such as Zemax, CODE V, or Light Tools.
- Support tolerance analysis and sensitivity studies for optical assemblies to ensure manufacturability and performance robustness.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate optical subsystems into larger product architectures.
- Assist in the development and execution of optical test plans, including MTF, wavefront, transmission, and alignment measurements.
- Coordinate with fabrication and vendor partners on component specifications, drawing review, and acceptance testing.
- Maintain detailed documentation including design files, test reports, and engineering change orders.
- Conduct literature reviews and technology assessments to support innovation and competitive benchmarking.
- Contribute to prototype builds and lab experiments in a hands‑on capacity.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or a closely related field.
- Coursework or research experience in geometrical optics, wave optics, laser physics, or optical system design.
- Familiarity with at least one optical design or simulation tool (e.g., Zemax Optic Studio, Code V, FRED, Light Tools).
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent for data analysis and simulation scripting.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal form.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, or a related discipline — strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience in optical alignment, interferometry, or spectroscopy.
- Exposure to imaging system design, laser systems, fiber optics, or illumination engineering.
- Experience with opto‑mechanical design using CAD tools (Solid Works, CREO, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with optical metrology instruments such as interferometers, profilometers, or autocollimators.
- Prior internship or research experience in an optics, photonics, defense, semiconductor, or medical device environment.
- Familiarity with optical coating fundamentals (AR, HR, bandpass) and thin‑film deposition processes.
- Understanding of radiometry, photometry, and stray light analysis concepts.
- Competitive base salary commensurate with education level (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.).
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match.
- Dedicated mentorship from senior optics engineers and access to cutting‑edge lab facilities.
- Clear career progression pathways from entry‑level into senior technical and leadership tracks.
- Support for continued education, conference attendance, and SPIE/OSA membership.
- Collaborative, low‑ego engineering culture that values intellectual curiosity and rigor.
This role is primarily on‑site to support lab and prototype work, with flexibility for hybrid arrangements as project needs allow. Candidates must be able to work in a cleanroom or laboratory environment and handle sensitive optical components and equipment.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
