The Materials Engineer supports aerospace manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams by evaluating metallic materials, conducting metallurgical analysis, and providing technical recommendations for flight- and safety-critical hardware. This role is responsible for supporting failure investigations, process improvements, material qualifications, and engineering decisions while ensuring compliance with AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate metallic materials and manufacturing processes to support production, quality, and engineering initiatives.
  • Perform metallurgical evaluations including metallographic sample preparation, microscopic analysis, hardness testing, and interpretation of material characteristics.
  • Investigate material-related failures and manufacturing defects by conducting root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.
  • Analyze microstructures, heat treatment conditions, coatings, grain size, inclusions, and other material characteristics to verify compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting findings, engineering conclusions, and recommendations for production release, customer approvals, and engineering disposition.
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities, nonconformance investigations, deviations, waivers, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve material-related issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with qualification of new materials, suppliers, manufacturing processes, and heat treatment methods.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 quality standards, customer specifications, ASTM/AMS standards, and internal engineering procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on material performance, manufacturing efficiency, and product reliability.
Materials Engineer

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of metallurgy, materials characterization, heat treatment, and material properties of metallic alloys.
  • Knowledge of metallographic preparation techniques and optical microscopy.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis, technical documentation, and root cause investigation methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in an aerospace, manufacturing, or other regulated industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ASTM, AMS, FAA, or NADCAP standards is preferred.
  • Exposure to hardness testing, microhardness, or additional materials characterization techniques is a plus.
