Play Director - Showagon
Under supervision, has charge of the organization and direction of recreational activities of a playgorund or play center. Performs related duties as required. TYPICAL TASKS:
Organizes and directs play and planned activities at a playground or play center. Organizes activities and gives instruction in group games, such as playground ball, volley ball, tennis, and other group or team games. Organizes and conducts field meets, sport days, and other special and festival events on the playground in connection with city-wide programs. Marks and lays out playing fields for various games and events.
Supervises the issuance, setting-out, use, collection, storing, and maintaining of equipment and apparatus. Maintains order within the playground or center. Discourages gambling, profanity, and rowdiness on the playground. Encourages participation in recreation activities. Conducts special classes or assists staff instructors in handicrafts, dancing, story-telling, dramatics, music, nature study, and other special activities. Attends staff meetings. Administers first aid. Consults with supervisors, assistants, and co-workers concerning the work of the playground.
Keeps records. Makes routine and special reports. Supervises the work of play leaders or other assistants.
- Prior experience working with or for a musical theater production
- Experience working with youth ages 17 and under
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proactive, with the ability to solve problems as they arise
- Prior experience in peer mediation or conflict resolution
- Flexible, start and end times may vary on a day-to-day basis
- First Aid CPR/AED certified
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid Divers License (required for some positions)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to pick up and move up to 50lbs at a time

- General Duties
- Conducts attendance at the beginning of each rehearsal / performance and reports any absences to appointed parties
- Communicates daily with Cultural Arts Manager, and Assistant Manager of Showagon
- Acquire, create, alter, and maintain costumes used in production.
- Acquire, create, organize and manage all props used in the production
- Assist cast with application and/or removal of any makeup needed for the production
- Transportation
- Transports youth to and from daily rehearsals and performances in a City Of Cleveland vehicle
- Performs general driver maintenance of city vehicles. Including but not limited to, fueling, visual inspections, and reporting
- Ensures youth arrive at destination safely and abides by all traffic laws
- Vocal Coach
- Instructs youth on proper vocal techniques, musical styles, harmony, etc.
- Works closely with sound engineer to ensure all music is properly queued up during performances
- Assists appointed parties in the acquisition of all music needed for performances, including but not limited to audio tracks, lyrics, etc.
- Ensure that all microphones are charged and tested prior to each performance
- Works with sound engineer to distribute microphones to the appropriate cast member throughout the duration of the show.
- Choreographer
- Works closely with appointed parties in development of choreography in conjunction with music and script
- Instructs youth on proper body movement, stretching, selected choreography, etc.
- Stagehand
- Responsible for all the proper placement and care of all props used in the production, prior to, during and after each performance.
- Responsible for all set and back drop changes during the duration of the show
- Assists Showagon Truck Driver in the set-up, leveling, and break down of prior to and after each performance (Stage, Roof, Stairs, Ramps, Lighting, etc.)
- Work closely with Showagon Truck Driver to set-up, breakdown, and properly store all equipment housed on the trailer, including but not limited to chairs, tables, stairs, props, generator, ramps, and fuel canister.
