The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in connecting the finance function with the organization’s technology, systems, and data infrastructure. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of all financial systems and reporting processes while leveraging ERP capabilities and analytics to reduce manual work, enhance controls, and elevate decision‑making. Acting as both a hands‑on accounting leader and a strategic cross‑functional partner, the Assistant Controller will provide actionable financial insights across operations, HR, quality, and other internal teams—supported by a strong foundation in cost accounting and data‑driven performance management.
Responsibilities- Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses using ERP/accounting software
- Maintain and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP or IFRS and regulatory requirements
- Apply strong cost accounting knowledge, including costing by product, line, and customer
- Oversee GL activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month/year‑end close
- Support the development and communication of KPIs for analytics and decision‑making
- Evaluate current processes and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
- Serve as payroll backup for exempt and salaried employees and provide required information for tax compliance to external accounting firms
- Utilize and support ERP and accounting systems to maintain accurate and efficient financial operations
- Identify opportunities to automate processes, enhance workflows, and improve data integration (including EDI)
- Assist with the implementation of new financial systems, upgrades, or modules
- Ensure data integrity, troubleshoot system issues, and resolve accounting or reporting discrepancies
- Prepare system‑generated data and documentation for internal and external audits
- Mentor and support the development of junior accounting staff
- Collaborate with Quality, Sales, HR, Operations, and other departments to support compliant, informed decision‑making
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA preferred
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and data analytics tools
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with excellent technical aptitude
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to interpret data, develop insights, and support strategic decision‑making
- Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to take ownership and drive improvement
