PRINCIPAL CASHIER Examination(OPEN) CS

SALARY: $18.59 - $32.10 per hour.

EXAMINATION INFORMATION

WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
The exam may be computerized, or a traditional pencil and paper designed to test the objectives of the duties and minimum qualifications of the classification.

JOB DUTIES

Under general supervision, has charge of responsible work involved in the receiving and disbursing of money. Supervises and inspects the work of Cashiers. Performs related duties as required. TYPICAL TASKS:
Supervises and inspects the work of Junior and Senior Cashiers. Supervises and assists in the receiving, paying, and banking of public funds. Maintains books showing daily treasury balances receipts, disbursements, and deposits. Prepares daily and periodic reports in connection with the handling of cash. Supervises the preparation of cash payrolls and the paying of employees. Pays out salary advances and attachments.

Receives payments from customers for services rendered. Checks and proves Cashiers' daily reports. Supervises petty cash and other funds. Maintains necessary treasury accounts. Approves disbursement voucher checks prior to signature and issuance. Handles collections of principal and interest in connection with bonds and other treasury securities. Receives, deposits, disburses, and accounts for moneys handled in connection with pension funds. Supervises treasury accounting activities in connection with collateral posted by depositories for safeguarding public moneys on deposit.

Makes collections and receives settlements from receiving Cashiers. Reconciles payroll checks with payroll reports. Assists and acts for the Deputy Treasurer as authorized.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university required. Two years of full-time paid cashier experience required. In addition, one year of full-time paid supervisory experience required. (Substitution: One year of experience may substitute for each year of college lacking.)

CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (CMSD) PREFERENCE CREDIT

An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and is participating in an open competitive entrance-level examination, as determined by the Commission, shall receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, as established in the examination announcement. Applicants must provide acceptable proof of graduation from a CMSD school at the time of application in order to qualify for this credit.

VETERANS’

PREFERENCE

Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing
application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability.

NOTE: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating typeofdischargeorseparationandthedatesofactiveservicewillbeacceptedasproof of active service.
