MISCELLANEOUS INVESTIGATOR (OPEN)

Salary: $17.81 – $23.05 per hour.
Examination Information
Experience Evaluation:
An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant’s academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken.
Examples of Duties:
Under supervision, the investigator makes investigations of a miscellaneous nature, such as complaints, violations of City ordinances, and delinquent accounts. Performs other duties as required. Typical tasks include:
- Conducts special investigations.
- Investigates complaints.
- Investigates delinquent water and heat accounts.
- Investigates relief order irregularities.
- Investigates damages to City property.
- Investigates reports of obstruction to public property.
- Investigates curb cuts.
- Checks establishments of secondhand dealers, scrap iron dealers, and barber shops.
- Checks the Legal News and Court records for information pertaining to investigations.
- Locates persons responsible for damages to government-owned property.
- Locates persons against whom the City has claims.
- Locates witnesses.
- Serves notices on store owners, tenement owners, and ordinance violators.
- Collects delinquent accounts.
- Issues, inspects, and investigates permits and licenses.
- Keeps records.
- Makes reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology from an accredited college or university is preferred. One year of full‑time paid experience in customer relations, community‑based programs, or a government setting required. Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required. Must be computer proficient.

Veterans’ Preference:
Veterans’ preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214 must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing the application. Eligible veterans receive additional points as specified.
