The prevailing salary for this position as established by Ordinance of the Council of the City of Cleveland is $21.07 – $24.55 per hour

Written Examination
:
The exam may be computerized or a traditional pencil and paper test to evaluate the objectives of the duties and minimum qualifications of the classification. (50 % of score)
Performance Examination
:
Those who earn a score of 70 or better on the written exam will take a test to demonstrate basic mechanical skills and aptitude. (50 % of score)
- Under immediate supervision and instruction, carries out tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repairs of sewers, manholes, and catch basins.
- Performs related duties as required.
- High School Diploma or GED required; preferred previous labor experience.
- Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
- Must have the capability to operate a jackhammer.
- Availability for overtime required.
Minimum qualifications must be met as of the last day of the filing period unless otherwise stated.
Veterans’ PreferenceVeterans’ preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F, and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214 must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing the application for the examination in which credit is sought. An honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions will add five (5) points to the raw score;
a service-connected disability of more than fifteen percent (15 %) adds ten (10) points.
Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
