Duties
Help
Sets up, operates, and monitors mail processing equipment (e.g. check inserter, postage metering machines, letter openers, and automated date stamper).
Performs maintenance and repair (clean/oil equipment, replace belts, gripper jaws, adjust belt tension, etc.); diagnoses malfunctions/makes corrective adjustments such as correcting the feed sequence in a multiple station envelope inserting machine.
Prepares outgoing material for dispatching; sorts mail into a variety of specialized categories such as first, third, and fourth class, foreign, U.S. Postal Service Express Mail, registered, certified, and priority mail.
Receives, sorts, classifies, and routes mail to personnel throughout the agency and supported units.
Opens, perforates, date stamps, and reads mail as necessary to determine routing by subject matter.
