Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position
Description:
This position is responsible is to provide both supervision and leadership in the daily activities of the Referral Services both in the field and within the donor referral center. This position is responsible for the facilitation of all training and continuing education for the department. This position is responsible for the facilitation of organ, tissue and eye donation process through the identification and evaluation of each potential donor to ensure optimal outcomes for the donor families and recipients.
Essential Functions:
- Provides supervisory oversight of the daily operations in the Referral Services department to ensure efficiency of the organ and tissue referral process. Assesses and determines potential donors to maximize donation opportunities.
- Analyzes and monitors departmental goals and data: develops and carries out initiatives to increase overall productivity for efficiency within the Referral Services.
- Creates, maintains and improves department policies, procedures and standard work instructions.
- Collaborates with other Lifebanc departments to ensure adequate, knowledgeable 24-hour coverage for Referral Services support.
- Management of the selection, training, development and performance of departmental staff.
- Communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations.
- Conducts performance evaluations for all direct reports and holds staff accountable for meeting established individual and departmental goals and benchmarks. Provides feedback on salary adjustments.
- Provides and oversees training for new and existing employees to ensure a high level of performance.
- Planning and delivering department meetings.
- Assures consistent compliance with local, state and federal regulations and professional standards related to donor screening and tissue recovery. Maintains compliance with OPTN, FDA, EBAA, and AATB standards.
- Ensures proper documentation of medical records to ensure Organ AOC has accurate and timely records.
- Ensures accurate and real time case documentation through the Lifebanc electronic medical record.
- Verifies all appropriate authorizations, clearances and documentation have been obtained.
- Responsible for the Referral Services budget.
- Maintains complete and accurate records of all donor-related expenses for finance department.
- Maintains relationships with collaborating partners (funeral directors, tissue processors, coroners/medical examiners).
- Serves as a subject matter expert for iTransplant and collaborates with quality and hospital services on the implementation of iReferral.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Registered Nurse or healthcare professional with a minimum of three years of critical care and/or a minimum of two years of experience as a Transplant Coordinator/equivalent.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the OPO or related health care field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills and working knowledge of basic equipment.
- Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, multitask and to demonstrate effective decision making within the scope of assigned authority.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel and donor families.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple members of the health care team to effectively manage an organ donor referral.
