Tech – First Assist

Job Summary:

The Cardiac First Assist is a specialized surgical technician who works closely with physicians to support cardiac surgeries. They assist in intraoperative procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes while managing pre- and post-operative duties.

Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons during cardiac surgical procedures, including first and second assist roles.
• Support the cardiac surgery program across the healthcare system, including coverage for transplant cases.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative tasks to facilitate patient care during the perioperative period.
• Comply with all organizational policies, standards, and confidentiality requirements, including PHI protection.
• Travel as needed via car, ambulance, plane, or helicopter to support surgery coverage and transplant cases.
• Perform other assigned duties as directed by department protocols.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an approved Surgical Assistant Program.
• Less than 1 year of experience providing Second Call support for cardiac services.
• Possess or be eligible for national certification from NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA (preferred).
• Demonstrate ability to safely assist in complex cardiac surgeries and handle intraoperative technical functions.
• Maintain adherence to safety standards and PHI confidentiality policies.
