Key Responsibilities

• - Assist physicians in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of respiratory disorders.
• - Evaluate patients and perform diagnostic tests (arterial blood gases, pulmonary function tests).
• - Develop respiratory treatment plans with physicians.
• - Monitor patient physiological responses to therapy.
• - Set up and operate mechanical ventilators and aerosol generators.
• - Manage life-support equipment in critical care settings.
• - Administer respiratory treatments (oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy).
• - Respond to emergency situations (cardiac arrest, trauma).
• - Collaborate with healthcare team on patient management.
• - Educate patients and families about disease management.

• - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC required.
• - Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) minimum certification required.
• - BLS/ACLS certification required.
• - State licensure required (49 states regulate respiratory therapy).

• - Associate degree or higher from accredited respiratory care program (2-3 years).
• - Pass NBRC Therapist Multiple-Choice (TMC) examination.
• - Pass NBRC Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE).
• - 2+ years clinical respiratory care experience preferred.
• - Pass state licensure examination.
