ABOUTTHE ROLE
UH is seeking an experienced Microsoft Azure AI Architect to provide part-time, remote advisory support to its software development organization. This role focuses heavily on Azure AI capabilities, including validating and optimizing current AI/GPT initiatives, designing scalable solution patterns, and guiding the team in best practices for AI architecture, cloud foundations, and Azure-native services.
You will help translate conceptual AI use cases into production-ready architectures, review existing designs for the Ask UH initiative, and recommend improvements around scalability, security, cost efficiency, and long-term maintainability. This includes advising on Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI, integration patterns, data services, and application architecture.
This role requires someone at the height of their career with strong consulting presence, deep Azure experience, and the ability to collaborate in an Agile/Scrum workshop-style environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Provide expert-level Azure AI architectural guidance to software development teams.
- Review and validate the architecture of UH’s Ask UH (Microsoft AI GPT) initiative.
- Design and refine scalable, secure Azure AI and cloud-native solution patterns.
- Build, configure, and optimize Azure resources supporting AI workloads.
- Advise on Azure AI capabilities including Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, ML Studio, and related services.
- Translate conceptual AI use cases into reference architectures and application patterns.
- Recommend and help implement Azure Landing Zones, the Well-Architected Framework, and Cloud Adoption Framework best practices.
- Advise on PaaS, serverless computing, API Management, integration services, and Azure data platforms.
- Ensure architecture aligns with security, governance, cost optimization, and Dev Ops best practices.
- Coach developers on Azure AI patterns, platform capabilities, and emerging features.
- Participate in planning sessions, design reviews, and roadmap discussions.
- Provide clear, structured updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Enable internal teams to become increasingly self-sufficient in Azure AI and cloud architecture.
- 10+ years of cloud architecture experience with deep Microsoft Azure expertise.
- 2+ years working with and implementing enterprise-level applications leveraging Azure AI and Machine Learning capabilities (including Azure AI Foundry, ML Studio, Azure OpenAI, etc.).
- Strong understanding of Azure PaaS, serverless computing, data services, networking, identity (Azure AD / Entra), and Dev Ops tooling.
- Experience designing, validating, and optimizing AI-enabled architectures in Azure.
- Proficiency in C#, .NET, Angular, and SQL Server; data science experience preferred.
- Ability to translate business concepts into technical AI and cloud architectures.
- Experience operating in an advisory/consulting capacity.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and workshop facilitation skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Healthcare experience not required.
