Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Data Engineer with deep expertise in the Merchant Acquiring industry. This role is critical in managing the data lifecycle for our clearing, settlement, and merchant pricing systems. You will be the bridge between complex financial logic and our data architecture, ensuring that transaction data is processed accurately and efficiently. While we are moving toward a modern stack (AWS/Databricks), your core strength should be in advanced SQL development and a deep understanding of payment processing ecosystems (specifically TSYS).
Key Responsibilities
- Complex SQL Development:
Design and maintain high-performance stored procedures, table-valued functions, and complex CTEs to handle large-scale financial transaction data. - ETL & Integration:
Manage and optimize existing SSIS packages and ETL workflows to ensure seamless data movement between legacy systems and our reporting environments. - Domain Expertise:
Apply deep knowledge of Merchant Acquiring to manage Clearing and Settlement logic, Merchant Pricing (Interchange, Tiered, etc.), and Chargeback processing workflows. - Data Modeling:
Maintain and optimize relational databases, utilizing temp tables, table variables, and XML parsing where necessary to handle complex message formats. - Modernization:
Assist in the transition of legacy data processes into AWS Cloud and Databricks. You will be mentored and trained on these modern tools as we evolve our infrastructure.
- Expert-Level SQL: 7+ years of experience with T-SQL (Stored Procs, Views, CTEs, Functions).
- SSIS & ETL:
Proven track record of building and maintaining robust integration packages. - XML Processing:
Experience working with XML within SQL Server (OpenXML, XQuery) to handle transaction payloads. - Relational Database Design:
Deep understanding of indexing, normalization, and performance tuning for high-volume databases.
- Merchant Acquiring:
Minimum 5 years of experience in the payments space. - TSYS
Experience:
Strong preference for candidates who have worked with TSYS platforms or similar core processors. - Settlement & Clearing: A firm grasp of how money moves from a merchant's terminal to their bank account.
- Chargeback Management:
Understanding of the lifecycle of a disputed transaction.
- Experience or interest in Databricks/Spark.
- Familiarity with AWS (S3, Lambda, RDS).
- Experience with Python or PySpark.
