We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Business team in the Cleveland office. Legal Assistants serve clients by providing administrative support to attorneys. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.
Essential Duties- Provides skilled, proactive administrative support to assigned attorneys and other team members in the Business Practice Group in our Minneapolis office.
- Edits and proofreads complex documents, including proactive review for, and ability to relay, relevant discrepancies/inconsistencies.
- Clearly and professionally communicates with attorneys and other members of the legal team on projects, needs, transaction status, etc.
- Works with members of the legal team and accounting to gather costs and time in preparation for closing.
- Actively supports the billing process, including initial review and comment on BIMs, editing BIMs, obtaining, preparing and/or updating reports, preparing cover letters and/or emails, and following‑up on client and attorney inquiries.
Independently performs administrative duties such as proof‑reading, editing and releasing attorney time entries; registering, calendaring and reporting Continuing Legal Education credits; requesting and following up on reimbursements and other related tasks.
Additional Duties- Prepares and reviews letters and memoranda according to Firm standards.
Exhibits outstanding client service orientation in all verbal and written communication.

- Demonstrates flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proactively monitors and communicates deadlines to the legal team as appropriate.
- Creates, maintains, and retires files in accordance with Taft's Information Governance Policy.
- Assists in managing client contacts, emails, print documents and incoming and outgoing mail.
- May enter time into billing management software.
- 2+ years Legal Assistant experience strongly preferred.
- Must demonstrate proficient command of the English language and standard grammar rules.
- Demonstrates strong working knowledge of, and experience in, using Microsoft Office programs; must have a desire to maintain excellent technical skills and to learn new software by taking advantage of internal training programs.

The salary range for this position is $29.12/hr – $38.46/hr actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted information based on work experience, education, and/or skill level.
