POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Director for Administration is a key member of the executive leadership team for the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (Case CCC). The Director is responsible for: developing and implementing strategic initiatives identified by the executive leadership; serving as the lead administrative officer for the Case CCC working across affiliates (Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) and other partners;

continuously advancing the operations of the Case CCC on an international scale and consistent with the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant; and ensuring the fiscal health and sustainability of the Case CCC.

The person in this position provides direct support to the Faculty Director and Vice Dean as a confidant and high-level advisor, is a member of the executive team, responsible for identification and implementation of growth opportunities in cancer research and education, provides leadership on important projects, and facilitates advances among multiple functional areas across multiple entities by working closely with senior leadership from multiple institutions.

This position will represent the Case CCC in public settings including scientific, philanthropic, and other events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Together with the director/vice dean and leadership of the SOM and Case CCC, develop and promote an integrated strategic plan and scientific vision. Communicate with the Office of Cancer Centers in the NCI for all Case CCC CCSG functions. Enable opportunities for the Case CCC to engage with internal and external entities to promote the cancer and stem cell research and education missions and enhance regional and national visibility.

    Represent the Case CCC and serve as a point of contact with internal constituencies and partners to advance the missions of the Case CCC. Provide leadership in building and maintaining government (local and state) and private sector relationships that enhance the mission and secure funding from these entities. Represent the director/vice dean with constituencies such as donors, alumni, foundation representatives, community organizers/advocates, corporate executives and federal, state and local government officials.

    As required, draft documents such as position papers and presentations. Work on behalf of the director/vice dean in the reorganization and realignment of the scientific programs, major initiatives, and multidisciplinary projects within the Case CCC. Establish priorities of the centers and maximizing strategic initiatives and inter‑institutional interactions. (30%)
  • Lead regular meetings among the leadership across the Case CCC partners to foster collegial cooperation and to communicate administrative and scientific developments. Develop and enhance linkages among the consortium institutions and partners to nurture and expand the scientific and clinical research collaboration potential and to facilitate institutional interactions in support of cancer and stem cell research. Develop implementation plans for these initiatives, working with appropriate Institutional and center staff.

    Develop communication strategies and provide strategic guidance on internal and external reports to Center members, institutional leaders, and external agencies, including development and philanthropic initiatives, drafts presentations, speeches, and articles. Support the center related functions of the Executive Committee members. Provide strategic guidance for Center internal and external meetings such as the Institutional Advisory Committee, External Advisory Committee, Case CCC Board of Governors, Institutional Consortium Cabinet and Community Advisory Board for the Case CCC.

  • Serve as the key administrative leader of the Case CCC with key internal constituencies at the School of Medicine and university offices across a number of functions including: finance, marketing, graduate programs, information technology, research administration, human resources and faculty affairs.
