Position: Engineering Manufacturing Manager (Cleveland)

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager provides transformational leadership that inspires a high performing engineering group. Results will be recognized through sustained accomplishments to quality, cost and delivery goals. Effectively develops clear and specific project objectives for targeted opportunities. Dynamically leads staff to achieve the stated project deliverables in coordination with quality and manufacturing management along with other engineering groups. Directs resources toward the application of standard and advanced approaches and technologies to significantly improve processes and/or systems.

Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Manages managers, supervisors, engineers, designers, technicians and/or other technical associates. Provides strategic direction for the department based on corporate initiatives. Interacts with multiple sites and many levels of leadership while devising new approaches to problems encountered. Responsible for assuring the appropriate technical skills, and supporting tools are present in the department to support current and future technical needs.

Further responsible for the delivery performance (projects) and process performance (systems) of the staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop the abilities of upper level engineers and supervisors and assist with departmental performance planning and personnel issues.
  • Develop wage plans, associate training and leadership development to support department needs.
  • Manage group budget including establishment, meeting targets, analyzing variances and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Assist with strategic planning for functional area, establish objectives and define and prioritize key projects to support the plan.
  • Coordinate with other functional supervisors and managers to plan projects and allocate resources.
  • Communicate department and company strategies within the department.
  • Communicate departmental project status to upper level management (e.g., monthly reports).
  • Write technical reports to document results of thorough investigations; give presentations to own and other groups to describe problems and recommended solutions.
  • Advise others in company on how to solve technical problems; can lead larger team efforts to solve problems that involve multi-departmental or interdisciplinary effort.
  • As a leader, enforce and appropriately escape all Swagelok associate policies.
  • Approximate # of direct reports: 5-7 engineering leaders; 50-70 technicians and engineers.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • Education
    : BS degree in a technical discipline (engineering degree preferred). Appropriate continuous education. Master’s degree or equivalent skills and experience encouraged.
  • Experience
    : 5-10 years of experience in a technical field (may vary depending on area). Requires knowledge of the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • Skills/Knowledge
    :
    Proven abilities in leadership including evaluating, encouraging, motivating, disciplining and awarding others. Applies experience and knowledge at an organization level. Demonstrates the ability to complete major and complex projects and to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Advanced problem solving and significant decision making abilities. Strong project management/product development skills. Excellent oral and written communication. Excellent computer and typical office software skills.
