Manufacturing Engineer, Product Engineer
Our client is looking to add a CAD Draftsman focused on Solid Works 3D modeling and production-ready design of electronic enclosures, sheet-metal housings, and machined components. This position works closely with engineering, sales, and CNC/VMC machining teams to deliver accurate 3D models, detailed drawings, and manufacturing data that flow directly into production. Strong emphasis on sheet-metal design, GD&T, BOMs, and real-world manufacturability.
What this job really is
This is a hands-on mechanical drafting role sitting right between engineering, sales, and the machine shop. You’re not just modeling parts for fun — what you design goes straight to the floor and gets cut, bent, and machined.
You’ll be designing electronic enclosures and sheet-metal housings, plus machined aluminum and plastic parts. Most of the work is Solid Works modeling and detailing, with some CAM exposure using BobCAD-CAM for VMC machining.
What you’ll actually do day to day
- Take customer drawings or samples and turn them into Solid Works models
- Create cutouts, holes, bends, flat patterns, and assemblies
- Generate production-ready 2D drawings with GD&T and BOMs
- Work on sheet-metal parts a lot (this is not a pure machined-parts job)
- Prep approval drawings for customers and sales before production
- Coordinate with production control to release jobs
- Make sure designs are manufacturable, not just “technically correct”
The machining side (important, but not full programmer)
You’re not a full-time CNC programmer, but you’ll:
- Assist with or create BobCAD-CAM toolpaths
- Think through how parts will be machined on a VMC
- Work closely with machinists to improve efficiency
- Help with fixture concepts and machining documentation
If you understand how parts are cut, clamped, and run, you’ll do very well here.
Qualifications:
- Strong in Solid Works
- Understands sheet metal (bend allowances, flat patterns, fab reality)
- Likes working close to the shop floor
- Enjoys seeing designs go from screen → machine → finished product
- Is detail-oriented and comfortable with production drawings
It’s not ideal if you want:
- No manufacturing interaction
- Zero CAM or machining exposure
Company & environment vibe
- Family-owned, stable company
- Not a startup, not chaotic
- Long-tenured employees = people tend to stay
- Engineering and manufacturing actually talk to each other
Big upside of the role
The biggest draw is that your work matters immediately. You’ll see your designs get made, used, and shipped — not sit in a digital folder for months.
