Summary / Primary Role

The position of Slitter Line Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining slitting equipment to cut large rolls of material into smaller, specified widths. This role ensures product quality, machine efficiency, and safe operation while meeting production targets. The position may be cross‑trained on the receiving and shipping processes and movement of product with use of forklifts, overhead cranes and other warehouse equipment.

Functions
  • Set up and operate slitter line machinery according to job specifications
  • Load and unload raw material rolls using cranes, hoists, or forklifts
  • Adjust knives, spacers, tension, and guides to achieve correct slit widths
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Inspect finished product for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Measure and record slit widths, weights, and production data
  • Perform routine maintenance, blade changes, and minor repairs
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and report major problems to maintenance or supervision
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations; follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout rules, and housekeeping standards
  • Work closely with supervisors, quality control, and other operators to meet production goals
  • Open warehouse and prepare for work day; lights, doors, etc.
  • Operate remote‑controlled cranes, forklifts and other equipment as applicable, to safely move product.
  • Operate track mobile to maneuver rail cars in and out of the building.
  • Follow company guidelines and procedures for the safe loading and unloading material.
  • Pull work orders.
  • Receive and ship product through inbound/outbound scan process using a handheld scanner.
  • Inspect material and make notations of any exceptions and or damages for all inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Organize material and inventory within the warehouse.
  • Package steel coils and prepare them for shipment.
  • Remove and secure bulkheads against steel coils in railcars.
  • Remove debris and clean out railcars prior to loading.
  • Communicate incidents, accidents, damages, claims to management immediately.
  • Ensure equipment is not overloaded.
  • Follow company guidelines and procedures for proper warning signals when operating cranes and forklifts.
  • Perform regular and routine inspection of equipment and monitor fluid levels to ensure optimum performance of equipment and safety.
  • Ensure inventory and material is stored safely and blocked properly.
  • Ensure work environment and areas are clean.
