This position is technically responsible for the support of the metallurgical facility through sample preparation.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform a variety of machine shop duties to support overall efficiency of sample production.
- Prepare samples including cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching using the latest techniques for all types of materials, both manual and automatic.
- Set up and operate cut‑off saws, make straight and mitered cuts of various materials and shapes based on written specifications.
- Adjust, mount, and replace blades as needed and measure proper lengths to maintain quality control procedures.
- Maintain proper chemical hygiene and safety standards for all areas of the facility.
- Adhere to laboratory quality and safety standards.
- Maintain facility and equipment, including preventive maintenance.
- Adhere to shop safety standards.
- At least 1 year of full‑time experience in a machine shop or materials testing laboratory.
- Ability to apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout & machining procedures.
- Commercial testing laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi‑task.
- Mechanical aptitude.

- Ability to accept feedback and make adjustments when necessary.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
General machining environment includes sitting, standing, walking; infrequent lifting up to 50 lbs.; pulling, pushing, carrying, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, and crouching. Frequent use of machinery with moving parts.
