Job Description Summary /ObjectiveThe Material Handler is responsible for executing accurate, disciplined material movement across the warehouse and production floor to ensure physical inventory aligns with system records. This role serves as the frontline owner of material flow, ensuring all material transfers, bin movements, and work order staging are properly scanned and recorded in the system. Material Handlers support receiving and raw material binning, stage materials accurately for production, maintain bin and FIFO discipline, and identify discrepancies between physical inventory and system data.
By ensuring correct execution at the point of movement, this role plays a critical part in protecting inventory accuracy, reducing production delays, and supporting efficient, reliable operations. The position will safely operate a fork lift to move raw materials, in process goods, and finished products to designated areas.
- Material Flow & Handling
- Execute material movement between Receiving, Quality Control, Warehouse, Production, WIP, and Finished Goods locations
- Ensure materials move through defined, controlled flows and follow FIFO where applicable
- Identify and upscale blocked, unclear, or non standard material flows
- Scanning & System Accuracy
- Scan all material transfers using RF Smart to ensure physical movements are accurately reflected in the system
- Ensure there are no physical material moves without corresponding system transactions
- Support accurate system transactions for transfers, consumption, returns, and staging
- Receiving & Raw Material Binning
- Assist with prompt binning of received raw materials
- Assign correct bin locations based on material size, usage, and labeling standards
- Prevent materials from sitting unbinned or staged without system visibility
- Bin Management & Accuracy
- Scan materials into correct bin locations
- Verify bin labels and physical layout accuracy
- Correct obvious bin errors immediately or elevate issues to Inventory Control as needed
- Work Order Staging
- Accurately stage materials for production work orders
- Verify correct material, lot, quantity, and location prior to staging
- Ensure all staged materials are fully scanned and visible in the system
- Inventory Accuracy Support
- Perform spot checks and visual validations during daily work
- Flag discrepancies between physical inventory and system data
- Support the Inventory Control Specialist by acting as the first line of defense against inventory inaccuracies
- Role Alignment
- Material Handlers are responsible for executing material moves correctly and scanning accurately
- Inventory Control Specialists are responsible for auditing, reconciling, investigating, and improving processes
- Essential Functions
- Must be able to read and understand work order instructions and schedules.
- Must be physically fit to lift up to 50 pounds
