We are currently searching for experienced candidates for the following position, Horizontal Turning Operator, 1st and 2nd shifts in our Cleveland, Ohio facility
Horizontal Turning Operator Position SummaryThe Horizontal Turning Operator is a skilled technician who sets up, operates, and maintains horizontal turning machines, both manual and CNC, to manufacture precision cylindrical parts. They interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet exact specifications, using various cutting tools and measuring instruments.
Key Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work orders to determine machining requirements and sequences
- Perform full machine setups including tooling selection, fixture installation, work holding, and workpiece alignment for large-scale components
- Operate machines to shape metal or other materials by turning, boring, facing, and threading
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect finished parts
- Set up, load, and execute CNC programs; make at‑machine edits or adjustments as required to meet dimensional and surface finish requirements
- Adjust machining parameters such as speeds, feeds, depth of cut, and tool offsets to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and tool life
- Monitor machining operations to ensure conformance to specifications, making real‑time corrections as needed
- Inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and height gauges
- Perform in‑process quality checks and verify critical dimensions to ensure compliance with engineering tolerances
- Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine preventive maintenance and daily operator care
- Document production data, inspection results, and any nonconformances; promptly communicate machine or quality issues to supervision
- Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to ensure proper interpretation of requirements and continuous process improvement
- Train and mentor junior operators as needed
- Adherent to all safety procedures, including proper rigging and handling of large and heavy components
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent - Experience:
2–5 years of experience operating boring mills or related machine shop equipment
- This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on large-scale, high-value components in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
