Position Description

Job Summary

The Shop Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing, and modifying metal components and equipment in accordance with drawings, specifications, and company quality standards. This position requires strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to working safely and efficiently in a shop environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, fit, and assemble steel and other metal components.
  • Perform welding and fabrication using appropriate processes and equipment.
  • Operate shop equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, presses, torches, and other fabrication tools.
  • Fit and tack components prior to final welding and assembly.
  • erify dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and finished work using tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and other measuring tools.
  • Fabricate replacement parts, brackets, guards, supports, and other components as required.
  • Assist with repairs and modifications to equipment and fabricated assemblies.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and conformance to drawings and specifications.
  • Identify material or fabrication issues and communicate them to the Shop Supervisor.
  • Maintain tools, welding equipment, and work areas in safe working condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Properly handle and store steel, welding supplies, gases, and other shop materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, material handling, and other shop activities as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with other fabricators, mechanics, technicians, and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Previous welding, metal fabrication, or industrial shop experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and basic blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of common welding and fabrication practices.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring and layout tools.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to complete assigned work within established schedules.
  • Willingness to learn new fabrication techniques, equipment, and procedures.
