The Fabricator is responsible for laying out, fitting, welding, assembling, and finishing fabricated metal components and products in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role requires proficiency in MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, along with the ability to read prints, interpret dimensions and weld symbols, and perform accurate layout work from raw material through final assembly.
The Fabricator supports DFP’s mission of saving lives by producing precise, structurally sound, and reliable fabricated products in a safe manufacturing environment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, work orders, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, tolerances, layout requirements, and weld processes.
- Perform accurate layout work on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel using tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, templates, fixtures, and other measuring tools.
- Measure, mark, cut, grind, fit, tack, weld, and assemble fabricated components to meet print requirements and production standards.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel components in accordance with approved procedures, internal specifications, and quality expectations.
- Select and set up appropriate welding equipment, shielding gases, filler materials, consumables, tooling, and fixtures for the assigned material and application.
- Fit and align parts prior to welding, verifying squareness, hole locations, dimensions, and overall assembly accuracy before final weld-out.
- Monitor welding and fitting processes to reduce distortion, warping, overheating, expansion, or shrinkage of materials.
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies to verify conformance to drawings, specifications, workmanship standards, and safety-critical requirements.
- Operate fabrication tools and equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, presses, clamps, fixtures, and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain welding equipment, fabrication tools, fixtures, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Identify and promptly report defective materials, equipment issues, drawing concerns, or unsafe conditions to supervision.
- Work collaboratively with production, fabrication, quality, and leadership teams to meet production schedules, quality goals, and continuous improvement objectives.
