Cuyahoga Job and Family Services (CJFS) connects residents with public benefits and work supports to help individuals and families on their journey to self-sufficiency. CJFS is tasked with determining eligibility and case management of five core benefit programs and workforce initiatives:
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Ohio Works First (OWF), Medicaid, Child care assistance, and Prevention, Retention, and Contingency (PRC). The project focuses on engaging and connecting communities with multi-system needs who are only receiving one service but are eligible for others. Target communities include emerging populations, those involved in workforce programs, and other underserved residents of Cuyahoga County. Cuyahoga County hosts many new immigrant populations with distinct needs, cultures, and languages.
The project aims to build on existing relationships with Latino and immigrant/refugee communities and other emerging groups.
- Collaborate with CJFS staff to identify populations through fact-finding, in-depth research, networking with service providers, and holding community forums.
- Engage and connect communities of multi-system need who are only receiving one service but are eligible for other public benefits.
- Develop an implementation strategy that includes informational materials and an adaptable engagement and marketing approach tailored to each of the targeted communities.
- Gain a general understanding of Cuyahoga County policies and procedures, the Department of Health and Human Services, and Job and Family Services.
- Develop public speaking and advocacy skills, and understand the VISTA role through training, document review, and collateral materials.
