The Northeast Ohio ALS Community Organizer will serve as the primary connector and relationship builder for people affected by ALS throughout the region. This person will identify, engage, and connect individuals, families, caregivers, clinicians, advocates, and local organizations inviting them to join and actively participate in the Northeast Ohio Community munity.
This is a relationship-centered, field-facing role. The Organizer will make calls, meet with select community members, ask for introductions, build trust, encourage participation on ALS.Community, and help transform a virtual platform into a vibrant local network of support, knowledge, and action.
The role blends outreach, relationship development, community organizing, volunteer engagement, event coordination, fundraising opportunity development, reporting, leadership, and documentation. The Organizer will help build a strong, sustainable Northeast Ohio ALS community while documenting what works to create a practical template for future local ALS.Communities across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and build relationships with people affected by ALS throughout Northeast Ohio, including people living with ALS, caregivers, families, advocates, clinicians, researchers, and community leaders.
- Conduct outreach by phone, email, and in person; ask community members for referrals and introductions to others who should be connected.
- Encourage people to create accounts, join the Northeast Ohio Community munity, and actively participate in conversations, events, and resources.
- Develop and maintain a priority list of key local relationships, including approximately 20 individuals or organizations for face-to-face outreach.
- Attend selected local meetings, events, clinics, and community gatherings to build awareness and strengthen relationships.
- Recruit and support volunteers, community hosts, and moderators.
- Help organize local gatherings, educational events, caregiver connections, resource exchanges, and fundraising opportunities.
- Identify prospective local donors, sponsors, partners, and in-kind supporters; cultivate relationships and share promising opportunities with ALS.Community leadership.
- Develop partnerships with local ALS clinics, healthcare providers, universities, researchers, nonprofits, and businesses.
- Track outreach activity, relationships, referrals, member growth, events, partnerships, and fundraising leads.
- Document successful approaches, challenges, and lessons learned to help create a Northeast Ohio playbook for future local communities.
- Document all communications in the ALS.Community Hubspot CRM.
- Commit 10-20 hours per week
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a warm, organized, proactive relationship builder who is comfortable speaking with new people, following up consistently, and representing ALS.Community in the community. Experience in nonprofit outreach, community organizing, healthcare, fundraising, volunteer coordination, social services, or relationship-based sales is helpful.
A personal connection to ALS is welcome but not required. Local travel throughout Northeast Ohio is expected for selected meetings and relationship-building opportunities.
