Ameri Corps Members Needed To Support Food Banks

The Ohio Association of Foodbanks (OAF) represents Ohio's 12 Feeding America foodbanks and their 3,600-member hunger relief programs, serving food-insecure Ohioans in all 88 counties. OAF will host 12 Ameri Corps members serving at 7 food banks throughout Ohio. Ameri Corps members will support a coordinated statewide effort to prioritize investments in scaling and sustaining Food Is Medicine initiatives. Deploying Ameri Corps direct service members at local and regional hunger relief agencies will support a coordinated statewide effort to improve health by getting healthy food into the homes of food-insecure Ohioans.

Ameri Corps members will be responsible for implementing the Health Eating Research (HER) Guidelines at food banks and pantry partners; expanding and executing referral partnerships with Medicaid managed care providers; expanding medically supportive grocery box programs at food bank locations. Members will support new, emerging, and expanding services that address hunger as a social determinant of health. OAF anticipates that members will support three types of pre-preliminary, evidence-informed approaches:
1. Implement and maintain the research-based HER guidelines for the Charitable Food System at emergency food distribution sites. (HER implementation) 2. Support referral partnerships to connect healthcare providers and their patients to emergency food providers. (MCO referrals) 3. Implement evidence-based pre-packaged food box and/or meals models. (Healthy food box)
