Pastor Calvary Reformed Church Planting Clevelanders in Christ

Calvary Reformed Church, with over 125 years of faithfully serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio, is looking for its next Pastor. Calvary Reformed Church began as Lawn Avenue Chapel in Cleveland, Ohio in 1881. We were a church plant from Western Michigan in the near westside of Cleveland not far from our current location.

We have been blessed with a rich history of faithful pastors who have kept the love of God and the love of neighbor as our foundation throughout the changing neighborhood over the years. We are a Christ-centered, multi-ethnic congregation in the Detroit-Shoreway [Gordon Square] neighborhood of Cleveland. Our mission is to “plant Clevelanders in Christ” through worship, discipleship, creation care ministry, gaming, and meal ministry.

Calvary is searching for one Pastor to teach, with grace and truth, the salvific message of God’s Word which is proclaimed throughout the Bible, lead worship on Sundays along with the praise team, shepherd the congregation with the elders and serve along with the deacons. The new pastor will lead Consistory, oversee the ministries and participate in discipling current and new members.

These activities are done on a weekly basis. Calvary Reformed Church offers a part-time secretary, a part-time custodian, and a group of lay leaders that oversee many of the ministries at the church. Calvary also offers a 2184 square foot parsonage next to the church. Calvary’s new Pastor should live in the neighborhood, preferably the parsonage, and be the light of Christ in our community.

Calvary is looking for someone with a Seminary degree, preferably a Master of Divinity degree, and either ordained, or moving towards ordination or becoming a commissioned pastor in the Reformed Church in America. They must be trained in God’s Word, know God’s Word, and continue to study God’s Word. The Pastor of Calvary must be a person of grace and truth, and be able to communicate grace and truth to the congregation, to all who come to Calvary and to our community, from God’s Holy and inspired word, the Bible.

Calvary Reformed Church is located in the heart of the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood of Cleveland Ohio. Cleveland has a beautiful Metroparks system with over 25,000 acres and 18 reservations of natural forestry, native plants and animals. The most note-worthy portion is Edgewater Park, which is in our neighborhood, and where we have our outdoor worship service in the summer. It is close to all of the great amenities that Cleveland has to offer including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, professional sports teams, and cultural centers such as museums, playhouse square, and the Cleveland Orchestra.

We have a large selection of multi-ethnic restaurants, the West Side Market, and Lake Erie itself. Our neighborhood is an eclectic mixture of people, diverse in racial and ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, and faith backgrounds. The Cleveland area also has some top tier Christian based schools and educational opportunities for children.
