As a Stepdown RN, you’ll deliver high‑acuity, post‑ICU care in a unit that bridges critical and progressive recovery. Your responsibilities include continuous patient assessment and telemetry monitoring, rapid escalation of clinical changes, IV therapy and pharmacologic management, wound and drain care, hemodynamic management, ventilator or airway assist as required by unit needs, meticulous documentation, and evidence‑based care coordination with physicians, case managers, therapists, and families.
You’ll develop and refine care plans, set measurable goals, and lead discharge planning conversations to ensure smooth transitions home or to another care setting. Your leadership and collaboration will empower junior staff through mentorship and hands‑on teaching, while you pursue growth opportunities in the specialty—whether advancing to unit‑charge responsibilities, pursuing CCRN or related certifications, or transitioning into leadership tracks as your tenure broadens.
