RN – 5W Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
Summa Health System – Akron Campus
Position: RN – 5W Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
Schedule: Full-Time, 36 hrs/week, 7p-7:30a, every other weekend/holiday
Unit: 32-bed unit; primary patient population: congestive heart failure

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.

Formal Education Required

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
• Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience And Training Required

• PRN RNs must have at least one-year recent experience in the area of practice
• One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions
• Additional related experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

• Full range of motion including lifting patients; dexterity and eye-hand coordination
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours
• Exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, hazardous substances, ionizing radiation; risk of falls
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS required within six months of hire or upon hire for experienced RNs in relevant areas

Population Specific Competency

• Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIHSS, Crisis Intervention)
• Ability to interact with diverse patient populations with respect, dignity and understanding of needs

Level Of Physical Demands

• Heavy:
  Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force continuously
