We are seeking qualified Registered Nurses for an anticipated opening supporting the Occupational Health Clinic at NASA Glenn Research Center. This is an opportunity to provide high-quality occupational and preventive healthcare while supporting NASA's mission.
General Description
Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Registered Nurse will serve as a resident nurse at the NASA medical clinic providing support to a nurse practitioner and/or physician for occupational and preventative medical services for the NASA Glenn Research Center population. The Occupational Medical function promotes the health of the Glenn Research center workforce through the operations and management of the on-site clinic and wellness campaigns.
How You Will Fulfill Your Mission
- Provides direct patient care by conducting health histories and physical assessments.
- Obtains vital signs, performs clinical tests, and assists with physical examinations as needed.
- Administers medications and treatments and observes for and reports adverse reactions.
- Sets priorities based on clinical concerns and help maintain patient flow in the clinic.
- Provides instruction to patients on health-related issues and help maintain patient education materials.
- Serves as a patient advocate by providing privacy and by providing emotional support.
- Maintains, calibrates, and checks medical equipment and supplies. Identifies equipment that needs to be serviced, calibrated, or replaced if not functioning or is expired.
- Helps maintain an adequate stock of supplies and medications.
- Identifies emergencies, summons appropriate assistance, and provides care within their legal scope of practice.
- Functions as a member of the health care team. Shares ideas with others and supports the overall mission of the clinic.
- Gains proficiency in using computers and familiarity with the different software programs in use at the clinic.
- Participates in peer review and quality improvement activities.
- Proficiently performs necessary testing for surveillance medical monitoring, e.g. audiometry and spirometry.

Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Ohio.
- Five Years of clinical experience in ambulatory, occupational, or emergency/critical care nursing.
- COHN or COHN-S designation or eligible to obtain certification within 2 years of becoming eligible by criteria established by the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- Completes annual Bloodborne Pathogen training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Certification in Emergency or Critical Care Nursing.
- Certification in spirometry and audiometry.
- Ability to perform venipunctures and obtain 12 lead EKG’s.
- Demonstrated experience conducting environmental multi-media facility audits.
