Job Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer II works under quality management and uses established procedures to ensure supplier-provided products, materials, and services meet company, customer, regulatory, and contractual requirements. The role emphasizes ISO 9001:2015 compliance, supplier risk management, and the development and maintenance of risk-based receiving inspection systems, particularly for heavy industrial components such as gears, castings, forgings, machined parts, and heat-treated components.

Functions
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Suppliers, and Customers
  • Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality requirements in accordance with ISO 9001:2015
  • Conduct supplier qualification, audits, and periodic surveillance activities
  • Establish and maintain risk-based receiving inspection and sampling systems based on supplier performance, product criticality, and supplier process capability/quality history
  • Collect and analyze supplier quality data to evaluate performance and risk
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions related to supplier nonconformances (SCARs)
  • Initiate supplier containment actions and support disposition of nonconforming material
  • Review and approve supplier manufacturing and inspection documentation (control plans, PPAP, FAI, capability studies)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, customer, and industry requirements
  • Support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits involving supplier quality activities
  • Support new supplier introduction and supplier development initiatives
  • Review and approve quality-related changes affecting suppliers (ECOs, deviations, waivers)
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:

    2+ years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or Quality Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • Knowledge:
    Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 requirements, supplier quality systems, inspection methods, risk assessment, and corrective action processes
  • Trained ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent internal auditor
  • Skills/Abilities:
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to develop risk-based inspection strategies; effective communication with suppliers and internal teams
  • Technical Preference:
    Experience with gears, castings, forgings, machining, and heat treatment processes
  • Familiarity of nondestructive test (NDT) methods: FPI, MPI, LP, RT and VT
  • Education/Certification:

    BA or BS degree in Quality, Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience auditing suppliers to ISO 9001:2015 and/or equivalent standards
  • Proficiency in establishing risk-based receiving and dock-to-stock inspection systems
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering print interpretation
  • Experience with statistical tools and software (e.g., Minitab)
  • Lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving experience (5-Why, 8D, Fishbone)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)
Working Conditions
  • Standard office and manufacturing environments
  • Frequent interaction with supplier machine shops, foundries, and industrial manufacturing facilities
  • Will require travel to supplier facilities approximately 10% of the time
  • Manufacturing environments may require use of PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes
  • May be exposed to environmental conditions such as loud noise, temperature extremes, dust, or fumes
