Job Description
An automotive coatings manufacturing client is seeking a Technical Director to join their team! This leader will oversee technical operations across multiple coating segments, including pretreatment, e-coat, and body topcoat technologies, while managing 3 teams of approximately 30-40 technical professionals. The role is heavily focused on leadership, team development, strategic direction, technical problem-solving, and ensuring consistent support for OEM customers. This individual will spend a significant portion of their time collaborating with leadership teams, conducting staff meetings, reviewing technical challenges, mentoring employees, and driving organizational improvements while maintaining customer engagement as needed.
This is a full-time direct placement opportunity located in Cleveland, OH, operating in a hybrid environment with approximately 3-4 days onsite per week. Compensation ranges from $100,000 to $135,000 annually, plus a 15% target bonus and relocation assistance for qualified candidates.

Skills and Requirements- Leadership experience managing technical teams within the automotive, coatings, or chemical manufacturing industries
- Strong people leadership experience with a passion for developing and mentoring employees
- Exposure to OEM coatings, topcoat, paint systems, e-coat, pretreatment, or related automotive finishing technologies
- Strong technical foundation and ability to provide hands‑on guidance in problem‑solving and technical reviews
- Ability to serve as a change agent and help drive organizational and cultural transformation
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline Chemist background
- Experience with in automotive coatings organizations
- Experience supporting global organizations and working across international teams
- Exposure to R&D and innovation environments
- Experience supporting OEM customer relationships
