Job Summary The Inspector performs dimensional and visual inspection of manufactured components, documents inspection results, and works with manufacturing, engineering and quality personnel to verify product conformity in support of operations. The position uses hand gages and conventional measurement in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions
• Perform receiving, first-piece, in-process, final, layout, and first-article inspections in accordance with drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and quality procedures.
• Perform dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, indicators, thread gages, surface plates, hardness testers, manual bore gage setting and other precision inspection equipment.
• Operate CMM equipment using approved inspection programs, including part setup, probe qualification as instructed, program execution, and review of inspection reports. Programming experience a plus.
• Operate Gleason Gear Measurement Machine using pre-existing fixtures and programs.
• Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T requirements, including datum reference frames, position, profile, orientation, runout, and form controls.
• Select appropriate inspection methods, part setups, fixtures, and measurement equipment to obtain accurate and repeatable results. Prepare inspection reports and maintain quality records.
• Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming products.
• Provide shop-floor inspection support. Verify measurements, perform random floor over checks, and inspection guidance.
• Perform calibration on manual gages and confirm inspection equipment is within calibration before use. Report damaged, malfunctioning, or suspect equipment. Familiarity with Gagetrak or other calibration systems preferred.
• Maintain gages, probes, fixtures, inspection files, and work areas in an organized and controlled condition.
• Follow safety requirements, quality procedures, work instructions, 5S expectations, and applicable customer or regulatory requirements. Hoist/crane operation for heavy parts.
• Perform other quality and inspection duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Required Qualifications
• Two (2) years of vocational or technical school.
• Five (5) years of general inspection experience including CMM operating PC-DMIS software.
• Computer operation, basic shop math, trigonometry, tolerance calculations.
• Gage calibration experience for simple, mainly manual gages.
• Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Ability to operate CMM equipment using established programs, complete part setups, execute routines, review reports, and recognize concerns requiring escalation.
• Demonstrated ability to select and correctly use conventional precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to inspect large or complex components while controlling orientation, cleanliness, temperature, restraint, and measurement access.
