Research Scientist
Dr. Angela Dixon leads a multidisciplinary research program at Case Western Reserve University that integrates neurobiology, engineering, and advanced imaging to investigate how peripheral and central neural circuits encode and process sensory information, as well as the relationship between sensory dysfunction and neurological disease. On the applied side, the lab develops bioinspiration-driven sensing platforms and robotic physiological models that incorporate olfactory systems.
The interdisciplinary team includes researchers in biology, engineering, and related disciplines.
We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher or research scientist to lead and expand olfaction-related projects and contribute to the development of insect-based sensing systems and broader insect neurobiology initiatives within the lab. This position offers substantial flexibility to shape an independent research direction within the broader framework of insect sensory neurobiology and biologically inspired sensing systems. Candidates are encouraged to bring their own scientific perspective and build complementary lines of investigation aligned with the lab’s interdisciplinary mission.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and conduct insect electrophysiology experiments
- Analyze neural activity data and integrate findings with behavioral or physiological outputs
- Contribute to projects investigating neural signaling mechanisms and regulation of sensory system function
- Participate in the design and refinement of insect-based sensing platforms
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and grant development
- Engage in creative problem-solving and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Initial appointment:
One year, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience and aligned with University guidelines.
Women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Process:Qualified candidates should submit the following to Dr. Angela Dixon at angela.r.dixon :
- A cover letter detailing research experience and interests.
