Research Scientist
The Wheelchair Injury Reduction Research Lab (WhiRRL)-flex group at the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Research Center, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, Cleveland, OH is recruiting for an Electronics Technician to provide technical support and perform project management objectives as a member of an interdisciplinary research and development group. The technician will work in collaboration with faculty, clinicians, and students to design and investigate new medical devices and restorative technologies for Veterans with mobility impairment.
Responsibilities include electronics and firmware development, 3D modeling, prototype fabrication, mechanical testing, data collection, and preparation of technical documentation. This role contributes to translational research efforts, including human-subjects research, publications, and conference presentations.
Additionally, the Electronics Technician manages and supports shared research facilities, including oversight of core facility equipment, materials, and day-to-day operations. The position provides training and mentorship to undergraduate researchers and summer interns, ensuring safe and effective use of laboratory resources.
Essential Functions- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
- Experimental background and experience with research environments
- Experience with Arduino, ESP-IDF, and/or Ti CCS
12 - Experience with Java, Matlab, and C++
- Experience with 3D modeling (Solidworks preferred)
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to synthesize information across several technical efforts
- Ability to work well in a team environment and strong communication skills (written, oral)
- Strong problem-solving skills: able to identify root causes, propose alternative approaches, and carry out feasible solutions
- Experience in 3D printing, laser cutting, basic machining, and other prototype fabrication techniques is a plus
- Must be a United States Citizen
