Student Herbarium Assistant: E. Gardner Lab; Student

Description

The student will be primarily responsible for mounting herbarium specimens. These are flat dry plant specimens collected as part of various research projects in tropical plant systematics. Each specimen needs to be neatly glued and/or sewn to an 11.5" x 16.5" paper, along with a label, and any loose fragments placed into a folded packet, which is in turn glued to the paper.

A secondary responsibility may include filing and databasing specimens. These specimens serve as voucher references for molecular and other studies.

Federal Work Study Progam students only.

Salary: $13.50 / hr

No prior experience is required, but the successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, patience with fine motor tasks, and a willingness to learn the basics of plant morphology. Applicants with a background in visual arts are particularly welcome.
