Overview
The Director of Aviation Security Operations is responsible for overseeing all security aspects and initiatives within a business aviation organization and acts as an advisor to the Chief Safety Officer on all matters pertaining to flight safety and security. The role works in concert with and supports all other safety departmental personnel and Flight Operations, managing flight safety and security components within the company’s comprehensive safety and security program.
The Director assists in the development, implementation, and management of safety programs, policies, and procedures, and helps ensure the company complies with all current safety and security regulations and industry best practices.
- Work with Flight Operations, Operations Control managers and Owner Service Representatives to monitor the company’s aircraft operations for safe practices and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the company’s Operational Risk Management program for all aviation-related events.
- Work within parameters and assist with the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Serve as Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator (AOSC).
- Serve as Transportation Vetting Portal (TVP) manager.
- Serve as Aviation Employee Vetting (AEV) manager.
- Serve as DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) manager.
- Serve as Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP) manager.
- Serve as Known Crew Member (KCM) Administrator.
- Complete global security risk assessments and analysis to support flight operations.
- Develop and manage budgets for security operations and ensure financial efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and best practices in business aviation security.
- Serve as primary point of contact for inquiries regarding customers and security matters.
- Act as Company designated flight Aircraft Accident Investigator.
- Act as Go-Team Member.
- Manage investigation and analysis for aviation-related safety and security reports involving Operational Departments.
- Research issues relating to flight safety and security, conduct periodic audits, evaluate processes to identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Request written response from managers outlining corrective actions to address findings or concerns.
- Design and organize safety and security training and communications programs.
- Deliver safety and security training to employees and maintain training programs to ensure they remain relevant.
- Monitor industry and global events pertaining to safety and security information for applicable interfaces and resolution.
- Assist in managing facility safety and security.
- Participate in all SMS Risk Working Groups.
- Assist in the management of aviation incident and hazard reporting programs.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree, relevant Military or other relevant experience in Security, or a related aviation field preferred.
Experience with security in a safety-critical environment preferred.
Advanced analytical skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Required / Desired Skills- Understanding of SMS, aviation regulatory frameworks, Security concepts, processes, and safety applications.
- Strong leadership, influencing and interpersonal skills, able to engage and promote a positive safety culture with integrity.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to speak publicly and present on the individual level, senior management level, and to large audiences, including employees, and industry professionals.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to write effective reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Able to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Must be detail oriented with an ability to prioritize multiple objectives in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities.
