Patrol Officer – Entry Level
Salary
: $26.52 per hour during Police Training Academy. Upon graduation, annual salary range $66,466.75 – $92,212.18. Benefits include a sign‑on bonus up to $5,000, tuition reimbursement up to $6,000, longevity bonus up to $800, clothing allowance $1,200, and paid parental leave.
- Respond to emergency calls, traffic stops, and community‑safety calls.
- Conduct surveillance, investigate crimes, de‑escalate conflicts, and make arrests.
- Provide first‑aid and CPR as needed.
- Document incidents accurately and adhere to departmental policies.
- Patrol neighborhoods, manage traffic, and assist other city departments.
- Testify in administrative or judicial proceedings and consult with supervisors and prosecutors.
- Carry departmental weapons and equipment as required.
- Perform all other assigned duties of a Patrol Officer.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License free of suspensions at all times; must have license prior to academy appointment.
- Age 21–54 at the time of academy appointment.
- Must obtain and maintain Ohio Peace Officer and LEADS certifications.
- Success in the National Testing Network (NTN) Law Enforcement written exam.
- Firearm and secondary weapon handling, use of force, and motor‑vehicle operation under stress.
- Problem‑solving, communication, and cultural‑competence skills.
- Ability to produce precise, accurate reports.
- Physical endurance, agility, and strength to meet job duties.
- Constant tasks: sitting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, eye/hand coordination while wearing uniform and equipment weighing 25–35 pounds.
- Frequent tasks: standing, walking, operating a patrol car, handling light to heavy loads, and exposure to extremes of temperature and weather.
- Rarely: heavy lifting for training, transporting victims or downed officers.
Must be a citizen of the United States prior to academy appointment.
Background, Medical and Physical Evaluations- Background investigation includes employment, references, criminal, and vehicle checks.
- Medical examination required to meet ADA standards.
- Drug screening (urinalysis) required.
