Responsibilities
- Supervises correction officers and Correction Sergeants/Counselors assigned to posts or special duty.
- Instructs and evaluates COs.
- Assigns staff to posts and enforces post orders assignments.
- Inspects each post to ensure alertness and proper placement.
- Enforces the use of body‑worn cameras and body scanners.
- Conducts surveillance security of the institution and property.
- Prevents escapes, apprehends escapees, and mitigates incidents threatening security.
- Performs constant rounds to inspect cells, shops, recreation areas, and dining rooms for cleanliness, safety, contraband, and security.
- Monitors and directs custody operations during inmate movements.
- Attends monthly unit meetings and assists Correction Specialist in supervising personnel.
- Supervises meaningful activities and arrangements thereof.
- Develops and enforces memorandums of understanding between service departments and units.
- Ensures availability and use of personal protective equipment for officers.
- Responds to needs of incarcerated persons.
- Manages disputes and reports complaints of abuse by employees.
- Participates in team approach to planning, operations, problem solving, and responds to emergencies and alerts.
- Gathers information and writes reports covering accidents, fires, and disciplinary actions.
- Completes employee and worker performance evaluations.
- Schedules work assignments, bed movements, meals, educational and recreational activities.
- Serves on rules infraction board or committees as required.
- Ensures safety and security of equipment and supplies.
High school diploma or G.E.D.; 2 years of training or experience in enforcement of security measures for detention of felons or individuals who are criminally insane; and 6 months of training or experience in supervisory principles or providing work direction and training to other employees. If eligible to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of the revised code, applicants must possess a commercial driver’s license.
Or: high school diploma or G.E.D.; 12 months of experience as Correction Sergeant/Counselor (code 46532); and commercial driver’s license if operating regulated vehicles.
Or: equivalent minimum class qualifications as noted above.
