Security Representative

Full-time position.

Summary

The Security Representative is responsible for delivering superior visitor service, providing accurate information to visitors, and monitoring the museum and its assets to ensure a safe and secure environment for visitors and employees.

Responsibilities
  • Provides superior service using Fans First principles and information to visitors.
  • Welcomes, assists, and directs visitors in an exceptionally courteous manner.
  • Provides information to visitors on exhibits, facilities, ticketing, policies and procedures, parking, directions, local accommodations, and attractions.
  • Assists in resolving visitor complaints quickly and effectively.
  • Assists visitors needing special accommodations.
  • Maintains cleanliness of assigned areas both internal and external, including moving stanchions or other objects to maintain traffic flow or assisting with removal of snow or placement of snow‑melting substances to ensure safe entry/exit to facility.
  • Controls visitor traffic flow and queues visitors in accordance with museum visitor regulations.
  • Monitors assigned area within museum to ensure safety and security for visitors and employees.
  • Patrols assigned areas, including galleries, plaza areas, exterior grounds, exterior doors and loading dock, Key Plaza, and Key Plaza valet/turn‑around area, for theft, vandalism, injury or unruly individuals and reports any problems to the Security Manager or supervisor on duty.
  • Politely informs visitors about the museum’s rules, including no smoking, touch restrictions on exhibits, and prohibition of picture taking.
  • Provides escorts to employees as needed or requested.
  • Responds to emergency situations by providing assistance to visitors and employees and helping investigate accidents or other incidents, completing incident reports.
  • Acts as liaison to EMS/paramedics, manages fire suppression system, is responsible for radio dispatch and communications, maintains accurate shift and radio logs, and maintains an accurate and systematic incident report filing system.
  • Assists all co‑employees as requested; duties may include but are not limited to the above.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with basic reading, writing, mathematical and manual skills; ability to communicate in standard English.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a customer‑facing security and/or asset protection position.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays.
Unique Expertise / Certification / Registrations
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Appreciation of rock & roll and/or music history.
  • First‑aid and CPR training (helpful).
  • Bilingual capabilities strongly preferred.
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check and background investigation.
  • Ability to wear a complete uniform including earphones/radio headset.
  • Computer literate.
Working Conditions
  • Environmental parameters: ability to work in a windowless office, in a noisy environment such as house music or machinery, and both inside and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physical demands: ability to lift or move items weighing up to 40 lbs; ability to ascend or descend ladders and stairs; ability to bend and to extend arms and hands in any direction; ability to walk and stand for most of the time with occasional sitting periods.
Equipment Used
  • Radio, personal computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
Safety Hazards
  • Physical hazards, general museum and office working conditions, occasional proximity to potentially harmful situations.
Aptitude Requirements
  • Cognitive:
    • Analytical: apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Communication: be conversant in museum rules and procedures; understand and carry out written or verbal instructions; answer inquiries.
    • Administrative: complete forms, pay attention to detail, and organize and prioritize schedules and documents.
  • Manual:
    • Motor coordination: select, pick, and deposit items.
    • Finger dexterity: pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers to operate above equipment.
    • Manual dexterity: seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands; shift, sort, fold or stack items; place and retrieve items.
Benefits and Compensation

The hourly pay for this position is $15.00.
