Night Watch Person​/Second Shift

Description

The Night Watch Person protects the collection and museum premises against fire, theft, vandalism and other dangers that might result in damage or loss.

• Monitor visitors, staff, vendors, volunteers, and contractors as they flow through metal detectors at points of entry for potential weapons.
• Make regular scheduled rounds of the building, reporting unusual occurrences to the Control Room.
• Examine display cases to confirm they are secure and have not been tampered with or damaged.
• Watch for and report irregularities such as damage to art objects, unkept areas requiring housekeeping attention, fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security door issues.
• Check for appropriate temperature and humidity levels as indicated by facilities and conservation staff.
• Observe departing staff, vendors, and visitors to guard against theft of museum property; require door passes from staff members for materials taken from museum premises.
• Respond to alarms in display cases quickly and handle them efficiently; perform duties related to emergency situations within the building and on the premises.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); strong security background required.
• Preferred: 205 hour State of Ohio Private Police Commission.
• College coursework helpful as well as prior first‑aid and CPR training.
• Employee must frequently stand 8‑12 hours per day, walk, talk, and hear. Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
