Plumber 1 Job Summary
Performs basic maintenance and repairs of plumbing systems and their components including water supply, drainage, waste systems, and plumbing fixtures. Troubleshoots plumbing issues. Performs preventative maintenance on plumbing systems including but not limited to snaking, cleaning and maintaining plumbing infrastructure and components. Assists in routine inspections of building systems and equipment. Coordinates work with other trades employees, CSU employees, and outside vendors and contractors to complete work assignments.
Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities and parts inventory using computerized maintenance management system. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Job Summary
Performs advanced and routine troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex plumbing systems including gas systems, hydronic piping systems, water supply systems and drainage systems, special piping systems utilized in research, natatorium systems, and industrial piping systems. Independently manages plumbing maintenance projects. Ensures compliance with plumbing codes, regulatory guidelines, safety regulations, and institutional standards. Establishes preventative maintenance routines and performs replacement, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and their components.
Assists with training, mentoring, and leading other plumbers under the guidance of the Crew Lead Plumbing. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
- Completion of four (4) year accredited plumbing apprenticeship program.
- Experience as a journeyman plumber.
- Ability to work second shift, weekends, and on call-hours as required.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. If lifting is over fifty (50) pounds, ability to buddy lift or use of tools to aid in lifting.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and various arial lifts in excess of twenty-five (25) feet.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.

- Asbestos Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Certification, Backflow Prevention Certification, Confined Space Certification, and Fall Protection Certification or ability to obtain certifications within one (1) year of hire.
- Two (2) years experience as journeyman plumber.
- Ability to work second shift, weekends, and on call-hours as required.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. If lifting is over fifty (50) pounds, ability to buddy lift or use of tools to aid in lifting.
