Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Vessel Fleet Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of heavy equipment, including marine vessels, industrial machinery, and support vehicles. This role requires strong mechanical expertise, hands‑on experience with various tools and systems, and the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.

The Vessel Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring operational safety, reliability, and compliance across our fleet operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vessels and fleet.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using schematics, diagnostic tools, software, and technical manuals.
  • Repair and overhaul engines, electrical systems, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Service and repair heavy machinery, including tugboats.
  • Operate power tools and hand tools safely to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, including diagnostics and soldering tasks.
  • Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and comply with industry regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities and parts used.
  • Assist in the training of junior technicians when necessary.
  • Remain up-to-date with industry advancements and new vessel technologies.
  • Keep work area clean and organized, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Essential Skills
  • Strong mechanical expertise in diesel engine repair, transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and suspension repairs.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation and vessel maintenance.
  • Ability to operate forklift trucks and other heavy machinery confidently.
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to use hand tools and power tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting marine engines and marine repair.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with fabricating using welding equipment and working with schematics is preferred.
  • Experience working on diesel equipment or similar industrial machinery is advantageous.
  • Prior service technician experience in industrial or marine environments is beneficial.

Environment

The work environment is a full‑service shipyard for new vessel and barge construction, fabrication, maintenance, and repairs in a state‑of‑the‑art facility. The shipyard, located in the Old River Channel on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio, features a 900‑ton mobile Travelift and approximately 2,000 linear feet of waterfront. An additional 3,800 linear feet of waterfront is available on the Cuyahoga River near the shipyard.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41,600.00 - $54,080.00 per hour.
