The Millwright I is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and construction of mechanical systems throughout the facility. Such systems include, but are not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, gas, and water. Required skills include general mechanical repair, basic carpentry, welding, masonry, and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform all tasks safely and competently with minimal to average supervision.
- Understand and practice all plant safety rules and housekeeping practices.
- Understand operation of furnaces, presses, hammers, and troubleshoot plant machinery, equipment, facilities, and installations.
- Repair, replace, adjust, dismantle, and assemble parts on a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
- Maintain, repair, or replace hydraulic valves, pumps, motors, hoses, and piping; pneumatic piping, plumbing, valves, diaphragm pump repair, regulators, and air filters.
- Troubleshoot mechanical drive systems such as pulleys, chain systems, sprockets, gearboxes, couplings, etc.
- Install, modify, and maintain piping systems for steam, air, gas, water, and hydraulics.
- Lay out and perform simple carpentry using power and hand tools.
- Use welding (STK, MIG) and burning equipment for minor repairs.
- Operate maintenance shop equipment such as pipe threaders, drills, saws and fabricate simple repair parts to reasonable tolerances.
- Perform general building maintenance including replacement of broken windows, repair of doors, and minor roof repairs.
- Complete basic electrical repairs when trained, following lockout procedures.
- Execute additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma.
- One year certificate from college or technical school.
- 3+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong background with utilizing basic hand tools.
- Familiar with pneumatics and hydraulics; able to read simple prints and sketches.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Ability to perform common rigging or handling of heavy machinery or parts.
- MIG and STK welding capability.
- Operate equipment such as cranes, hoists, tractors, welders, burning torches, benders, pumps, compressors, and lift trucks.
- Capable of working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Able to handle up to 75 pounds and meet mechanical needs of the facility.
- Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, and any shift.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before customers and employees.
- Perform basic arithmetic and compute rates, ratios, percent, and interpret bar graphs.
- Carry out detailed written or oral instructions and solve problems involving known and unknown variables.
Required to stand, walk, climb, balance, lift up to 75 pounds, and use hands and arms. Must have adequate vision for close, distance, color, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENTExposure to fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and moderate noise levels. Frequent tasks include reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and handling heavy equipment.
