MobileDiesel Technician Level II
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Under supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, the technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs. The role continually develops advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques, and the technician must comply with all company policies and achieve high performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Road test vehicles to verify proper operation.
- Identify problems, assess information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and reconcile company‑issued service truck supplies.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, perform safety checks, and conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work per company standards and upload pictures, parts used and findings on repair orders using the iOS TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and all other required documentation promptly.
- Maintain high productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase orders and repair notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain daily pre‑/post‑trip inspections of the service truck.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination such as a degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED and 5 years of experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, or submit a valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining.
- Be at least 21 years old per interstate operating authority regulations.
- Hold a valid Class C driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
